Friends of FANA, Minnesota, is a non-profit organization established to support families who wish to adopt a child from the FANA orphanage in Bogotá, Colombia. Camp of Dreams is a unique opportunity for area families considering adoption to spend time with the children. The camp runs from November 25 to December 3 this year.
The children who participate in Camp of Dreams are older and their futures even more uncertain than many of the other children at FANA. As orphans continue to age, their chances of being adopted decrease significantly and their dreams of finding a family begin to fade. In Colombia, when an orphan reaches the age of 16, they lose all forms of institutional aid and are no longer under the care of the government. The mission of Camp of Dreams is to connect these children with the families that have been dreaming of them, too.
This year the dream is to find families for 14 children. You can find photos of 12 of the 14 children at www.caringbridge.org/visit/colombiankids. The hope is to identify interested families before the kids arrive and have said families begin home studies (one of the first of many steps in the paperwork chain to adopting a child). Interested families should contact Patti Bertsch at email@example.com.
Volunteers are needed in number of areas - providing meals, doing laundry for campers, setting up and cleaning up at the end of camp. Some clothing and other necessities for the campers will need to be collected before they arrive, especially winter jackets, hats and gloves.
The weekend of September 27 & 28 St. Joe’s will be having an information table after all Masses about Friends of FANA and Camp of Dreams.
