Prayer shawls have been used throughout the generations. Our ancient Israeli ancestors used prayer shawls to help them pray and to remind them of God's constant presence. Prayer shawls are given to individuals to remind them that God is with them every step of the way, everyday.
The gift of a Prayer Shawl can be given as...
* A Prayer for a Friend | * A Prayer for a New Life
* A Prayer for Peace | * A Prayer for a Loved One
* A Prayer for Healing | * A Prayer for Comfort
* A Prayer for Love | * A Prayer for Hope |
Prayer Shawl members knit and crochet in a group as well as in their homes, praying over the shawls as they create them. The shawls are then blessed at church. Shawls are giving to those individuals experiencing challenges in their lives, like chronic illness, surgery, death of a loved one, cancer treatments etc. Shawls also can be offered in joyful times, like the birth of a baby or for the union of a marriage. The individual(s) are wrapped in the comfort and warmth of the prayer filled shawl as they face their challenges and/or joys.
Individuals of all skill levels (beginners to the experts) who wish to knit or crochet prayer shawls are welcome. Training is offered to individuals who wish to learn how to knit or crochet. Yarn, needles, and other supplies are provided.
The Prayer Shawl ministry meets monthly from September through May on the third Wednesday of the month from 1:30pm to 3:30pm at the Parish Center in Room 2.
Please come any time you are available and/or contact us if you have questions or would like to donate yarn and materials. To find out more about this global ministry and see various patterns and examples of prayer shawls click the following link, www.shawlministry.com.
